Biological waste water purification system

The waste water is made to flow through a pre-treatment plant where most of the solid heavy substances are settled and part of the waste are anaerobically digested. Then the waste water is passed through a second container where it is aerated due to the rotating effect of the inner cylinder. Here the water is separated from the sludge and the wastes are aerobically degraded by microorganisms. Thus the water is purified effectively using the biological.

Purified water

Quality parameters of the discharged water through the Biological System:

  • BOD5 = 20 mg ⁄ l
  • COD = 100 mg ⁄ l
  • Sludge volume = 200 - 600 ml ⁄ l

Purification using plants

Waste Water purification using plants
  1. The solid substances in the waste water is allowed to settle in a sedimentation tank.
  2. The waste water is then allowed to flow through the purification tank. Due to the combined filtering, the purifying capacity of the microorganisms, plants and soil in the bed, the waste water is purified to yield a better quality at the outlet of the purification tank.
  3. The water collected in the control tank undergoes quality control at regular intervals.

The main Infrastructure features at the centre are

  • a multifunctional seminar hall for 30 persons
  • a discussion room for 10 persons
  • various open air facilities for group gatherings
  • library and reading room facilities
  • boarding and lodging for 30 persons

The facilities are also given out for interested parties to conduct residential programmes. Mithradham is well equipped for seminars and workshops with 22 living rooms out of which 4 are double rooms.

Service and maintenance charges are as follows:

  • Single room per Person and Day: RS 800,- (with breakfast), RS 1.200,- (with food)
  • Double room per Day: RS 1.100,- (with breakfast)
